Outdoor Activities and Wildlife Galore!

With Dorset Peak, part of the Taconic mountain range, on the area's southern border, and the Green Mountains looming from the east, there is never a shortage of incredible views and outdoor activities to enjoy.

In the winter you can enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Residents and visitors alike have access to world-class skiing and snowboarding at five major ski resorts that are within 45 minutes or less of the area - Killington, Pico, Okemo, Stratton and Bromley.

And the rest of the year, there is plenty of hiking, biking, fishing, and caving to enjoy. Visit the Green Mountain National Forest and you may spot some local wildlife, including moose, black bear, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and beavers. Danby Area Elementary and Middle Schools

Currier Memorial School (Danby and Mount Tabor): This PK-5 school has a little over 100 students and is dedicated to supporting students and families in any way they can. This commitment to serving the community results in a great learning environment for the kids to grow.

Tinmouth Elementary School: A highly-rated public school located in Tinmouth, VT with around 50 students in grades PK-6 with a student-teacher ratio of 10 to 1.

Wallingford Elementary School: A public school located in Wallingford, VT with approximately 150 students in grades PK-6.

Private Schools: Mountain View Christian Academy is a grade 3-7 private Christian school located on Danby Pawlet Road. Other private schools are found in Manchester and Rutland.

Depending on which town you live, your student will attend one of the following public middle and high schools. Residents of Danby and Mount Tabor have school choice for middle school and high school.

Rutland Middle and High Schools are highly-rated schools with a great student-teacher ratio. They feature team sports, clubs, and music for a wide array of extracurricular activities.

Mill River Union Middle and High School: A highly-rated public school located in North Clarendon, VT with 430 students in grades 7-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1.

Burr and Burton Academy (Manchester): Independent High School, considered by many as the best high school in the state, free tuition for Danby and Mount Tabor residents.

Getting Here and There

The Danby area is situated halfway between Rutland and Manchester, Vermont along State Route 7. The area is within 4 hours of all the major metropolitan areas of the northeast.

The region is served by train in nearby Albany, New York (approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes away), providing easy and reliable access to New York City. The closest major international airport is also in Albany, and there is a regional airport close by in Rutland, Vermont (25 minutes away) with daily service to Boston.
